PROJECT: CARTRIDGE ASSEMBLY MACHINE
Challenge: I was in charge of designing two subsystems for a Cartridge Assembly Machine.
Process: I conceptualized, designed, and drafted two subsystems in my first year at Gillette. One served as the component's entry into the machine and the other served as a cleaning mechanism to minimize risk of equipment damage. Equipment design's end consumer were operators on the manufacturing floor, and so each design was developed with the following criteria in mind:
- Safety: high-speed assembly equipment comes with many potential risks, and so each subsystem was designed with the utmost attention to operator safety while assembling, debugging, or running the system.
- Easy Accessibility: every screw, nut, and bolt had to be accessible during the assembly process and parts of the machine that needed to be frequently changed (due to wear), cleaned, or cleared of jams needed to be easily accessible at all times.
Results: I successfully designed and implemented two production subsystems for the assembly machine and achieved our targets.
