PROJECT: CHARGE IT SPOT

LED strip lights

LED strip lights

Challenge: When a ChargeItSpot user has trouble retrieving their phone from the kiosk at the end of their charge they must call a support line. The customer support representative then verifies that the person who is calling matches the photo of the original person who placed the phone in the locker. Many of the kiosks are installed in casino locations, which have extremely dim lighting, making it difficult to verify the photo. My task was to develop a lighting solution that could be easily retrofitted into the existing design.

Process: I first experimented by purchasing LED strip lights and placing them in various increments and locations until I found a few different configurations that provide enough light for the photos. I then worked with the lead Product Designer to understand how we could retrofit this solution with minimal effort into existing kiosks and also what a kiosk re-design that included this lighting solution would look like. After building and testing various prototypes, I then focused on devising a sourcing plan to ensure the solution’s longevity.

Results: A final design for the existing kiosk retrofit was prototyped and approved. Designs for lighting inclusion integration in next generation kiosks was conceptualized.
